Abena earned her degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University. At BU, she used her opportunities to tutor and mentor students of all ages as a Dean’s Host, member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and BU’s Intergenerational Literacy Program. Presently, Abena is pursuing a Master of Engineering in Integrated Product Development with a concentration in Manufacturing Technologies at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. She works as a graduate research assistant at The Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education (CIESE) on projects helping train teachers in new ways to teach K-12 science and engineering whilst strengthening their STEM knowledge. With her passion for engineering and education, her main aim is to work in the design and development of initiatives and technologies to improve and increase the access to quality education (specifically STEM) for all – especially women, less privileged communities and developing nations. She also desires to set up much needed manufacturing facilities in Ghana and throughout Africa to boost the production of items we need from our own resources! Abena strongly believes that education and training are the means to empower the citizens of a nation for sustainable development and is glad to be a part of ARA-W, an organization that shares her beliefs!
