Dr. Anita Corbett, PhD

Anita H. Corbett received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Colgate University and her PhD in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University.  She was a post-doctoral fellow at Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School.  She joined the faculty in the Biochemistry Department at Emory University School of Medicine in 1997.  She is currently a tenured Professor of Biochemistry and Co-Director of the MD/PhD Program at Emory.  Work in her laboratory focuses on understanding how mutations in genes that encode ubiquitously expressed RNA binding proteins lead to tissue-specific disease. Current projects examine two such diseases, intellectual disability and a form of muscular dystrophy. As a complement to her research, Dr. Corbett has a major commitment to mentoring and student training. She plays leadership roles in graduate education with a strong emphasis on training in communication skills including scientific writing. Recently, Dr. Corbett’s efforts in this area have been recognized by mentoring awards from the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Science (2012) as well as the Graduate School at Emory (2015).
