Raheal’s passion for the sciences goes as far back as high school where she completed a Cambridge GCSE O-level and International Baccalaureate (IB) program at SOS-Herman Gmeiner International College in Tema, Ghana. She furthered her pursuit of the sciences by pursing a Chemistry degree at Mount Holyoke College, USA-- an all women’s college with a strong focus on raising women scientists. During her time there, she actively engaged in HIV/AIDS research projects at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York) Currently, Raheal is pursuing a Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo. At school, she mentors undergraduate students with an interest in Pharmacy. She has a three-fold future vision: First, to implement patient-focused pharmacies in Ghana; Second, to institute clinical and biomedical research structures that will allow us to produce medicines locally, and thirdly to mentor and raise a generation of women who will explore and achieve great feats in academia. The knowledge and exposure Raheal has gained from her academic, research and mentoring experiences is what she brings to students at the African Research Academy for Women, in a collaborative effort to advance the involvement of women in the sciences. She believes in the great capabilities embedded in women, and the potential Africa has to develop more safe and effective drugs/medicines locally. She is therefore ready to challenge students at ARA-W to pursue their scientific passions to the advancement of healthcare in Africa and the world at large.
